I just bought an O'Day Daysailer II that has been sitting unused for some time. Both jib and main halyards are shot. What's the best type line and size to replace these with? I'm sure I will have more questions soon as I have no manual and have never rigged this kind of boat before.
Thanks,
Paul

The rigging specs can be found on the Daysailer site at http://www.daysailer.org under the Technical info section. The info itself is at http://www.daysailer.org/tech_rigmeas.php although the main sheet dimensions are for the Daysailer I. The Daysailer II main sheet is shorter, about 6 to 8-feet as I recall from when I replaced mine. The manual for the DS2 is at http://www.daysailer.org/tech_ds2man.php

D&R Marine http://www.drmarine.com/categories.asp?cat=64 has all the parts for the Daysailer including the halyards.

Give this guy a call and he can set you up with the right size and length halyards for your boat. http://www.drmarine.com/
He sells STA-Set X non stretch braid. I bought both of my halyards of him about a year ago and got a better price from him than what I would have paid at "Worst Marine."

The DS II (DS I or III would be same) main and jib halyards are 1/4" line, Rudy supplies double-braid for the pre-made rigging, and I used 1/4" double-braid polyester (Dacron) when I made new halyards for my boat.
Here are the rigging dimensions from my enhanced Owners Manual for the DS II (1971-85)

RUNNING RIGGING:

MAIN HALYARD: ¼” x 45’ Dacron Shackle spliced to end

MAINSHEET:
(Mid-Boom-1974-85) 5/16” x 25’ Dacron Double-Braid (D&R uses 3/8”)
spliced to becket on block

(1971-74 end-boom) 5/16” x 38’ Dacron Double-Braid

DOWNHAUL: ¼” x 36” Dacron Double-Braid

OUTHAUL: ¼” x 8’ 6” Dacron (For “Block-Action” outhaul)
¼” x 7’ Dacron (for stock outhaul)

JIB HALYARD: ¼” x 31’ Dacron Shackle spliced to one end

JIB SHEETS: 5/16” x 22’ Dacron Double-Braid (11’ each side)

BOOM-VANG: ¼” x 10’ Dacron Double-Braid Spliced to becket on single block
¼” x 24” Dacron Double-Braid Line to fasten lower block to mast

CENTERBOARD:
Lowering line 5/16” x 29” Dacron knot in CB recess
Control-Line ¼” x 15’ Dacron
Cable 1/8” – 7x19 Stainless-Steel wire
approx. 24” long (15 ½” between Nicropress sleeves that form loops at each end)
See diagram on “CB top & Bottom” page of manual

Shock-Cord 14” x 10 ½” (14” of cord with a loop in each end)
