Blame the spar installer
I'm surprised and disappointed that this spar was installed without either the maker or the installer providing at least a messenger line in place of halyard cordage to facilitate reeving at least one halyard. The CDI furler with its integral halyard is NO replacement for a proper jib halyard, for the potential you did discover as well as for anything else you could possibly ever want to hoist there. Next trip up the mast, drop a new piece of XLS down the sheave and catch it inside a wide cable-tie loop inserted through the exit plate. For now, phone the spar maker and scream at him for not including the messenger line. That was poorly done of them.JC 2
