Halyard for a cruising chute

I took the mast down on my Hunter 285 (1987) this winter for some needed repairs and upgrades (new steaming/deck light and a TV antenna) and while it's off the boat I was thinking that this might also be a good time to also install a halyard for a future cruising chute. I was thinking of getting one either this season or next. Has anyone equipped their 285 with a cruising chute and how do you like using it? I did take a course on flying a spinnaker last year and although it was cool to do you need a crew of at least three and a pole which seems to be a pain in the $%&# to change during a jibe. Also the sheaves at the masthead, on the 285, are line up next to each other, two on each side of the center line of the mast. Does the sheave for the cruising chute halyard need to be higher then the others to prevent chaffing? Finally, what line diameter / length should the halyard be? My mast is 36' long.

Going up

The halyard for the Kite needs to go on the bail hook above the jib halyard. This prevents the Spinnaker Halyard from wrapping against the forstay. We fly a kite all the time and have both a A kits and a Regular kite. Love flying the Kite> Do you know about the Hunter 28.5 Group on Yahoo Groups? Cliff H 28.5 "Red Dog"

You do not need a pole with an asym chute...

just a dousing sock, to fly it solo. I used 7/16 inch Staset for all the chute sheets, halyard, etc. on our P42. Sailnet.com beats WM prices by quite a bit. Terry
