I am half way of half way around the world -- Common Core Math :)

I made it to Marquesas Islands a couple weeks ago. Wednesday I am heading to Fakarava atoll and the following weekend to Tahiti.

It took me 30 days from Panama City to MI. That is a long time by one's self. I even started singing to myself and I hate to sing :)

Boat did great except an issue I've been battling for a year now...a noise from what I thought was the steering or console (and I kept thinking I fixed it) but now know it is the rudder bearings. Will pull the rudder when I get to Tahiti and get the boat on the hard.

Anyway, just thought I'd catch you guys up to date on my cruising.

Happy for your successful passage. Solo passages can change your life. Great accomplishment. Take care of your boat. Keep us informed of your progress. Fair winds.

I have been reading " Thoughts, Tips, Techniques and Tactics for Singlehanded Sailing", by Andrew Evans. He talks about some really weird tricks the mind plays on the solo sailor. One that sticks in memory was a sailor in foul conditions, sleep deprived, decides to catch a couple of minutes rest. Coils up on quarter berth, hears a problem with the sails. Gets up, starts up the companion way into the storm, as another sailor is coming down. Tells him it was just a chafed line. It's been fixed. Get some rest.
Go figure this one. Boat haunted?
Great book for everyone thinking about solo sailing.

I heard voices on my first trip 4 years ago when I left Texas. I didn't hear them again until this trip but this trip it was just once. The thing that helped me was I loaded up about 600 movies on the harddrive and some new music too. I also read a few books and I'm not much of a reader. One thing I've learned through the years is you have to get your mind off the boat. When you have crew you can have conversations to pass the time and get your mind off the noises, but when by yourself you have to find other means. Music movies and books are good. Noise reducing headphones with them is even better.

Thanks all for the encouragement.

So you heard voices. What did they say? Maybe you don't want to encourage these as your out in the middle of the Pacific and may still have a ways to go... :waycool:
