Hi All
I have rust running down from the bow roller.
Has anyone removed the entire bow roller assembly?
Would like to get tips, if any, before I start the job.
Thanks!!

Looking at the rust, I would be concerned that it is more than surface rust.

Removal is waranted. You will need to address the issue that the forestay is attached to the fitting. This means securing the mast by other means or removal of the mast. The rust that causes concern is the apperasnce of pitting near the 3rd and 4th bolts down from the top.

You will need to examine the inside bow through the anchor locker for nuts and backing plates to the bolts. It is possible that in lieu of a strong backing plate mild steel washers were used. This could be the source of the rust.

Once removed inspect for pit corrosion over the entire unit. If discovered you will need to rebuild the chainplate and affected parts.

This is a typical case of SS rusting in the absence of oxygen. There will be a thin coat seawater in the space between the SS and the hull. No air, thus no oxygen to prevent the SS from oxidation. When you reinstall fill the space between SS and gelcoat with a good sealant, so no place for seawater ingress.

Let us know how the inspection and solution develop.
