Hunter H410 Whitby
A 1992 37.5 Hunter Legend and a 2000 Hunter h410 , both great boats. The h410 has a longer water line, carries more sail but the 37.5 is lighter with a slightly taller rig. Both with shoal keels, both with full batten mains, both with 110% genos, both with feathering props - which is the faster boat in 10-15 knots of wind on all points of sail? What's the real world experience?

PHRF Bouy Rating SoCal

...has the 37.5 at 105 and a 42 (same hull) as 102. No 410 listed, but would be similar. The 37.5 is a fast boat and should do well against even significantly longer waterlines, and especially in the wind ranges you mention. Neither one is a slug. RD

The Hunter 410 hull

Rick, the Hunter 410 has the same hull as the 420, not the 42. I don't know what the PHRF rating is for the 420. I do know the 420 is a lighter boat, but don't know the comparisons on lwl, sail area, etc.

Thanks, Dan

PHRF shows the Passage 42 as 96, the 430 as 108 and the 42 at 102. My own 40.5 is 108. I'm not sure what generation they are rating on the 42, so you are very right that it my not be a proper comparison. Regardless, it puts the 37.5 as competitive I think. RD

I've owned a Hunter 37.5 for 5 years and really liked it. But I've now sold it and have purchased an h410. It appears these boats are similar in speed, although I suspect the 410 will be slower in light air and it will take some time to get used to the characteristics associated with the B&R rig on the 410. I'm really pleased to hear it's not a slug! By the way I didn't know the 420 and the 410 shared the same hull. Thanks for the info.
