Is there anyone with this setup who can tell me exactly what alternator belt you are using? Brand and part # please! Specifically, I have a 2005 H41 with Yanmar 4JH4E with a single-pulley Balmar 100 amp alternator #60-100-SR-IG mounted in place of the stock Yanmar alternator. Came from the Hunter factory with this setup.

The original belt was destroyed at 12 hours by an interfering bolt and was too long. Dealer put in a belt that was too narrow (3/8" instead of 1/2"). I have a part # from Hunter but don’t have a lot of confidence it is correct given the 2 incorrect belts already (Yanmar 25132-004400 is the part number I was given). Looking for verification or what was originally used.

I really want to get this belt right since one broke on us last week and caused a slew of problems (long sob story).

Thanks for any help.

Usually any alternator 100amps or more requires twin belts.

I'm surprised your set up only has one belt.

dayco topcog belt

I have a 3jh2 with a 100 amp alternator that I added. Don't need twin belts til you get a 110 amp or more alternator. The dust is probably from slight misalignment which probably does not matter if it is only a very little.

Balmar and others recommended a gates belt or a dayco topcog belt, 1/2 inch. I got a topcog from amazon. Don't know the length you need. Measure the outside of a belt that fits and allow for a slight? stretch.

I have a Yanmar 4JH2 w/ a 100 amp Balmar alternator... one belt, 8 years, changed yearly.
Not sure exact size or part #, but never have had the problems you describe.
Do you have a local desiel mechanic you can ask the same questions? .. Get him to ck alignmentm, belt tension, etc. Is a hundred dollar service call
(for this and any other issues) worth the end of the agrivations this problem is causing you???

Belts, h41

I also have had some belt problems. Original belt was rubbing on the engine. Dealer replaced the original belt with a Mitsubishi REMF-6430. This belt is working but some dusting is occurring. I then took the belt off and took it to an auto parts store to pick up a spare. Milage Maker 17445MK, Gates 9447, Goodyear 17446, Napa 25-11355 should work with your engine. The belts are still a little close to the engine so I am keeping an eye on it.
Hope this helps.

John

John, good info

Thanks for taking the time to give me the information John. I heard from another owner via e-mail who has a "Mitsuboshi RECMF-6430" belt. Sounds the same as yours. I will chase down the Mitsuboshi belt--it may be the Yanmar part # that Hunter gave me.

Pain in the belt!

I have a 1987 H40 and I have replaced the belt more times than I can count. The Stock belt from Yanmar (a mitsubishi part) is too big after only minor wear. I too get dusting, although I have reduced it significantly by realigning the alternator pulley. (the previous owner or their mechanic had apparently tried to do this, but made things worse. This is the only engine I have ever had this problem on, and it continues to be something that I constantly watch and replace the belt far more often than I should have to. I fyou find the solution, i would be interested to know!

My new 3JH5E has the same belt RECMF-6430. Actually I entered the forum to find an equivalent type for a spare. John's comment helped.

Mitsubishi-Mitsuboshi

Hi,
RECMF-6430 refers to MITSUBOSHI (CHINA).
I wonder if there is a relation with MITSUBISHI.
I wonder also about YANMAR's policy!!!
I replaced mine with GATES.

I have same engine in 41ds installed exact same balmar set up I used the same belt that was original from Yanmar. found it was a little tricky to install , had to loosen alternator right off, slip belt over alternator pulley then reattach alternator. This gave me ample clearance on water pump housing where a longer belt only gave 1/2 inch clearance. been using same belt for 2 years I do carry a spare tho, minimal belt dust from this setup..
