I love my MaxProp, especially in reverse. Try changing your pitch. I normally run 2000 rpm at 6 knots comfortably.

You should have 1.5"-2" gap between the prop and hull. Adjusting the pitch is easy and can be done either in or out of the water.

I think you do not know how complicated the assembley of the prop it is, it is impossible to do under the water !

I do know, and had my diver change it when he did my bottom. Only took a couple minutes, he didn't even charge for it.
Call MaxProp and see what they recommend.

do you have de 40 hp engine ? these are my settings too but i can hit 4000 rpm and i feel i am under the pich i need, can you overreved your engine too ?
Not to be a wise butt, but you should actually check your RPM with a strobe or hand held, just sayin.....
Would not changing the pitch from 12 to 13 reduce engine RPM? So either prop is not pitched to 13 or your tach is off, what did your 18/12 prop for max RPM?

I wish I would have known that before I did it 50 or 100 times

If you have a Max Prop Classic, I guarantee it didn't take "a couple minutes."

I missed typed, I have a 54hp Yanmar. I can't hit 4000rpm even going downhill with the wind.
Fstbttms, maybe you need to change divers
Considering that I am a PYI-recommended Max Prop installer, I doubt that.

Which model Max Prop do you have?

Fstbttms I have the classic.
I can't begin to tell you how impressed I am with your recommendations. We can bounce barbs back and forth, but it really is counter productive to this forum. If you wish to continue entertaining each other, please do it by private message.

You are free to disagree with my statement, as I am free to disagree with yours.

I wasn't going to have the adjustment in the water. However my diver assured me it wasn't a problem for him. Then I asked Fred Hutchinson at PYI and he prefers the adjustment out of the water, but he knows a lot of people do it in the water. While the water is considerably warmer in Central Florida than S.F. bay, he doesn't have to wear a drysuit and gloves to do it as I would imagine you would.

My prop is the old one, in order to change the pich you must disasemble everything and each screw has a security pin, the new one are very easy to change pich. I think dayDreamer41 is correct i need to see what the revs are really.!
