It looks like when I roll in my mainsail it gets really wrinkled. I'm worried about jams and if I'm not properly furling the main. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Be sure the vang and sheet are eased when furling, and that you’re pointing into the wind. Are the wrinkles oriented a specific way? Also, what’s the age and condition of the sail? As they get older and blown out furling can become more difficult. It is a good sign that you aren’t having jams despite the wrinkles though.
Hunter/Selden recommend being on a slight starboard tack (as opposed to head to wind) when furling the main. In my (limited) experience, this strategy works well.
