I have seen that 38' models newer than our 2004 h386 have an acrylic backsplash back of the galley sink that protects the dinette seatee from dishwashers prone to violence. Does anyone know where I could pick one of these things up. Thanks, Shoeless.

My H-36

Well here is the one off a newer H-38 that I ordered from Hunter for on my 2007 Hunter-36,not cheap but really looks nice like as if it came from the factory.
I installed it my self and did not need to modify it at all for my H-36 and saw it on a new 2007 H-38 at the dealer, don't know why Hunter only puts them on H-38 and up and I like the nice window shades on the hatches also that they use on the bigger Hunters which I will be adding soon.

As Steve points out, you can purchase a galley splash guard from Hunter Marine. Call Ronnie Barnes at 800-771-5556 x 4 or email him at retailparts@huntermarine.com. These are the two options he quoted me for my 2004 386:

1. 55" long 6" high with a raised center, clear Plexiglas #1028981- $132.32. Brackets attach to the corian top are sold separately
2. 32" long straight across the top, clear Plexiglas #1022595 - $84.82. Brackets attach to the corian top are sold separately.

So, I am wondering if I can just buy the brackets from Hunter? I have a local guy that I think can make me the splash guard-might be a bit cheaper.

POTL, someone posted a source for the brackets on this forum several months ago.. I think if you search "backsplash" ya may come up with the post.. Hunter is a source, sure, but they usually charge you for their handling of a commercially available part like that bracket.. The plastic part itself can be purchased from a local plastics fabricator;
they should be able to provide different colors and thicknesses to your preference..

Thanks Kloudie. I'll do some research. I must have missed the previous discussion on backsplashes. I am also going to have to get back up to the boat to take some measurements since I think I only need a piece maybe 24-36 inches long. I am also not sure what thickness I can go with but I don't think there is a big gap between the sink/faucet and the edge of the counter. A measuring tape will answer all my questions though!

Any time

Any time I wanted to buy some thing from Hunter I call the parts department guy and they even return my calls with great help and will give you a price over the phone, yes some things not cheap and some things not,but my wife says she likes when it looks nice with out going cheap O and looking crappy.
I try to save when ever I can if possible but wife jumps to stop me,I like adding improvements on my 2007 H-36 but if $$$$$$$ than we don't really need it,I am a pretty handy guy and kept most of my old tools when I retired but wife like using the phone for house and now with so much free time I love working on the boat but like more sailing than work,it's 20 work and 80 sailing.
Yes here on the forum many other splash guards DIY.

I added a splashguard to my 04 h36 in 2006. The brackets came from Ace Hardware, a glass shelf originally for the bathroom and then purchased the 1/4" Lexan piece from a plastics company locally. Total cost was about $50.

Al, just to clarify-did you buy the glass shelf to get the brackets and then buy the plastic piece seperate? What you did looks really nice.

The brackets similar to the one's from Hunter are used by Glazing Contractors on glass railing installations etc. Check with your local glass guy. I did find them on the internet once, but can't find the links again.

The glass shelf was placed in the dumpster and just the brackets used. Plastic came from TAP Plastics. As I remember the shelf was about $20.

Re: Thanks Al

I had asked about this subject a few months ago for our Cat30 and I got some great responses. OldSchoolNeil (as well as others) has made one of these and responded, so you might want to look him up and see his responses. He is really talented and the backsplash was just one of the upgrades he has done.
