I just bought a 2000 H380. I have a question about the inner chainplates that support the struts and the innerstay. The attaching screws have been replaced with lager diameter screws. Also, there is small stress gelcoat cracks around one of the chainplates. One of the screw holes was redrilled, because it appears the screw broke off in the hole. Does anyone have any knowledge or expereince with this chainplate? How do you maintain them and what should I look for? Thanks

More chainplate info

The survey noticed the gelcoat cracks and the redrilled attaching screw. The surveyor could not determine the condition and recommended a disassemble and an internal inspection. The boat is on the hard and the mast & rigging is off. We are going to take the chainplate apart this week. The internal structure of the plate is a rod (inside the boat), that attaches via plate screws through the fiberglass. The rod appears to have a round plate below and a round plate above which two screws attach thru (from above). Clearly, the boat appears to have had some hard sailing. On one side they are 1/4 inch screws, the other has been replaced with what look to be 3/8 inch screws. They are counter sunk. Does anyone have any experience replacing these? Thanks

If It Looks Like It Has Been Sailed HARD...

...then that should be reflected in the price that the seller is willing to accept for the boat.
