H37C Stanchions

I have to replace all the stanchions on my H37C.I have seen comments on 24" or taller 30" stanchions... It's tempting to replace with the same type of hardware... but I have seen many GOOD comments about making a change to 30".... Any suggestions? I ponder backing plates of various kinds too... :>--jerry

I Think...

...that 30" are suggested for offshore cruising boats, but don't quote me on that . At any rate 30" would be nice, but will they line up with your fore and aft pulpits?

replace all.....

ALL of the stainless steel parts above the hull were snapped off or bent (only two) in Katrina. So the pulpits get replaced too... The boat is in basically remarkably good shape - when considering what it went though... But I have to replace all above deck metal "protrusions" and rigging. Looking to add an Arch in the stern - for power and radar - too. I am just starting metal design work with the stanchions. I will likely build a CAD model of the whole thing and get all stainless parts built in one go. It is a good oppotunity to add some "stern rail" seats, while at it. Also to think hard about the rigging. So many projects - so little time.... :>--jerry

I had them custom fabricated into the orignal stern rail on my H37C to my design and my design was, how do you say it. . . .. PERFECT.;D I will post some pics on the project forum in a week, all you 37Cs guys will be drooling, just beside yourselves with envy and wonder.

I replaced with 30

I had 4 stanchions bent or broke in a storm a couple winters ago. I called Hunter to see if there was any place I could buy replacements with the same footprint so I wouldn't have to drill new holes. They told me a place in Marysville, Michigan had the original drawings for the 37c stanchions. Tops in Quality (link below) is the place. They were real good to deal with. The originals lean in about 5 or 10 degrees and they'll make them whatever height you want. I ended up replacing them all with 30 inch high stanchions. The extra 6 inches makes a big difference. They ended up costing somewhere around $100 each. There's a phone number on their web site - give them a call.
