The mast goes through a hole in my table, making the latter impossible to remove without pulling the stick. As I wish to put my house batteries into the bilge beneath the table, removal would be most helpfull.

How have other owners modified their tables to make them readily removable? I really don't want to get into the sophistication of the sliding-folding-swinging table apparatus shown on the mods photo site.

That's a relatively simple modification that I made years ago Bill. A good winter project for the warm basement. But take the table off the boat in three parts, the two leaves and the rest. The thing is heavy and bulky.

The first step is to remove the forward leg and move it to the back of the box. That puts both legs aft of the mast. The forward leg right against the mast. Then cut out the top from the hole forward. I cut mine with a 45 degree camber so that I can set it back in. I made a little aluminum latch to keep it in place. I used a very thin blade so that you can barely see the cuts. If you don't plan to take the mast out then you can cut that piece out to get the table out of the boat. But you will have to remove the leg also. Both difficult to do with the mast in the way.

It is so long ago that it is hard to remember all the details. Seems like I might have had to reinforce the forward end where the hinges attach. But I love the change. So easy to move the table from over the bilge.

We removed the table by removing several bolts and screws. Maybe you can see from this picture (hope it uploads) there was a separate piece that could be removed so the table could slide away from the mast.

I was able to put a battery under the floor in my 37c without removing the table. i made a shelf for the battery glassed it in then put a sealed battery on the shelf in a battery box.

Remember that batteries during charging put out some gas. not to good to breath. I was only able to get one group 27 in the space, it is still a pain to check it so i went with gel cell batteries, which means you should also concider an external charge regulator for the alternator.
