Or whatever those deflectors attached to the hull at the rudder are called. Some of us have discussed these and several of you said you removed them and plugged the screw holes. But does anyone know the real intent of these? They are a source of leaks as those screws go through the f/g into a void at the stern. I have shaped some treated wood that I will epoxy in to fill that void. Then the screws will go into solid glass. I made new fairings out of hard rubber stair treads. Mudflaps are a better material but not long enough.

Home for barnacles

I'm firmly convinced that the purpose of the rudder fairings on the 37c is to provide a safe and secure home for barnacles -- one that is virtually impervious to all attempts to remove them at the end of a season.
