I've been thru the archives and the Kenyon/Rig-Rite site and can't find a diagram of the boom innards. I am replacing the outhaul line and suspect it's been "monkeyed with". I don't think the internal purchase is connected. What's it look like in there? Anyone have a diagram?

Just as I suspected, one of the internal pulley blocks was not being used, and just rattling around inside the boom. I rerouted new 3/8 line and re-attached the forward pulley. This proved to be the real pain since the SS screws had become forever galvanically wed to the aluminum fitting, they were not coming out. The fore pulley is attached to the thru-bolt which holds the bail (the hole in the boom in pic#1). I had to do this with a piece of wire holding the pulley thru the small hole in the fitting. Imagine building a ship in a bottle. At least now I have 3:1 purchase on the outhaul.

I have a 1980 36. Thanks for posting the pic's which are good for comparison purposes. Boom hardware looks to be the same between the two boats. Caught my attention in particular is that black cleat on the bottom of the boom (your first picture). I wondered for a long time why it was there; with no good conclusion. On purchasing my boat (4th or 5th hand) nothing was left of the internal outhaul, so I went with an external arrangement. Not as convenient, but I tend to check/set the outhaul tension only every-so-often when out for a sail The little cleat was in the way of the external setup. As you experienced, SS and Aluminum become permanently bonded with time. Had to cut the little cleat off with a hacksaw blade through the SS screws flush with the boom. Shame to lose the cleat. It was a cute little thing. But I haven't regretted the loss yet.
