If you have remnants of the rudder it can be rebuilt. Chances of finding one from a salvage yard are not very good. Best bet is to dip into your 401K and order a new one. Foss Foam made the original and still makes replacements: http://newrudders.com/ . As Rardi points out we hang on the Cherubini Forum. But "Mid-Size Boats" definitely not, the H37C is a "big" boat. :)

What do think a new one might set me back?
I do have a H36 rudder... I wonder how close that may be to a 37C?

Thanks Ed... when I get home I am going to take a pick of that H36 rudder and post it. Can I get your email... I have a pic I want to send you and a question...

I just ordered a rudder for H36 from them for $2100 after tax and shipping. My old rudder had a bent post and would have been $1600 to repair.

Rick, that is ugly! Is that the same spot as in my picture? A lot of Hunters have a fiberglass sleeve in the molded hole. Our boats seem to have a bronze sleeve. You can kind of see it in the picture.

P.S. I see that it is the same place once I made out the scupper outlet on the right.

Are you sure that the sleeve is not in there? Maybe just the bottom end is buggered up. Can't tell from the picture. You could measure the I.D. if we knew exactly what it is supposed to be. Somewhere here in an old thread I know the rudder stock O.D. has been posted. A call to Foss Foam could get you that number. I'd guess at 4". Blaise would know if he sees this. Problem is we are on "Mid-Size Boats". I'll look for the diameter and then ask the question over on the Cherubini forum.

4" seems a bit big- I will be back up there tomorrow afternoon and look much closer.
If you can find out anything- please reply.

Pretty day today- Cathy and I started removing everything that wasn't glued down. It is amazing that no one even took the pots and pans out of this boat. One more trip ought to do. I then went on to West Marine for West system epoxy materials. I usually use Jamestown Distributors- but they are slow and I am running out of warm weather. I work 6 days a week- so time at the boat is limited for a couple more months.
