I am having no success finding the thread regarding modifying the H37C boom for reefing. I am mainly interested in the reefing line size. I think the consensus was 3/8". But I also want to remember the other changes. "Search" is not finding it for me.

I like the way the reefing lines exit at the gooseneck (I have both reefs rigged). If I wanted a winch, I would mount it on the mast, under the gooseneck. The reefing line could be led to a snatch block at the base of the mast and then on to the winch, to ensure a fair lead. I like Blaise's idea of running the reefing line through a clip on block instead of the cringle - might have to try it.

You are trying to make work for me with all these ideas. If I sailed on San Franciso Bay or where you do then it might be a priority. I'd bet I haven't reefed three times in the twelve years that I have owned the boat. And not once between Lake Erie and Tampa.

I cannot remember the standard rigging ever being a problem. When I hoist the main I just pull the reefing lines out the side so they are off the cam cleat. All my lines are at the mast. Maybe it is more of a problem if you are in the cockpit where you can't release a snag or you forget to "uncleat".

When I reef I drop the main, hook the luff cringle on the horn, pull the reef line snug, and done. Well except for a couple of sail ties around the boom. I have never done it in a big blow though. Never had to use a winch.

I think, for now, the mod will be new 3/8" green and red Samson lines and a slight bevel on the holes.
