It was an amazing last day of January on Lake Erie. Almost 60 degrees and perfect for boat work. Would have been fun on the lake with an offshore wind of 25 knots. Clear blue sky with visibility from Huron to the coasters at Cedar Point. The cover on the boat was still tight and dry after two months of inattention. Took a walk out to the lighthouse at lunchtime.

It was my intent to get a good start on the rewire with my new panel and 1/0 wire. Problem #1, the thick lugs meant my ground stud was too short for a lock washer under the nut. Problem #2, the hole where the wires go through the bulkhead is too small for two 1/0 wires. Problem #3, with the panel in place I have no place for my legs. So I can't get into the locker to access all the connections. Problem #4, even if the hole were the right size I could not get the new Blue Sea battery switch in from the back. There is not room between the lip of the locker and the bulkhead.

I was able to run the new ground through the bulkhead. I found a way to run the new wire directly from the alternator to the 12v bus. Now I have to put the starter and alternator wiring back together. I would like to remove the old wire from alternator to starter but it is in a conduit.

I also ran the new long 1/0 wires from the bilge up into the panel area. In the panel picture the blue wire is my refer wire. It goes to a breaker over the fridge. I'm going to like the end result I think.

Ed, have you considered installing a bus bar near the alternator and just running a smaller wire and lug to the AO?

Really not needed Stu. And I dislike having to mount "stuff" in that tight space with all the insulation. The alternator wire is the only #4 cable in my mix. And I installed it after taking the alternator picture. The tough wire is going to be the 1/0 red cable from the switch common to the starter. An impossible place to work. I removed the starter to alternator wire by using about 24" of extension on my socket wrench. Getting the wires, washer, and nut back on will be fun.
