Hunter 376 Kemah
We have a furled main from the factory and we are looking to replace our original sail from 96 on her. Few questions as I get ready to replace. We plan on sailing to Caribbean from Texas and spend a few years sailing there.

1. Main sail: Furled
Full Batten?
Fabric type? oz?
Leach line? such a thing on a sail this size?
2. Headsail: Roll Furling
Fabric type? oz?
3. Spinnaker: Not currently rigged
Looking to add to inventory so open to suggestion of how to rig.

Should we use a local loft as we have several in Kemah Tx. if you have any other suggestions on sails and what we should think about feel free to share.....

376 furlilng main replacement

We replaced our main last summer through UK sails in Miami. Regardless of where you buy your saill, you need to send it to the sail maker. Neither Hunter or UK sails had a listing of our sail measurements. It's a hassle to drop it and send it to a sail maker, but you won't be sure to get the correctone if you don't. Of course, if you live near a sail maker, they can come and measure.

The newer sail material is heavier. We've had quite a time unfufling the main at times. We have to vang it down hard and then be sure to pull the sail ou horizontally. Otherwise, the boom will tend to ride up and the sail will jam.

Hope that helps.

One other thing on battens

Yes, you can have vertical battens sewn into the sail, but again, the main was and still is hard to unfurl because we went with a slightly heavier cloth.

No decent sail maker would care about the measurements from your old sail. They have a form for the basic measurements or come to the boat and measure it themselves. They will use a computerized system design a sail for your boat.
