H37 Holding Tank Vent problem

To all you owners of the H37 and H37 cutter...The holding tank vent as installed by the factory appears to have some problems. It contains a "trap" just like you would find in a sink (and yes it collects water and other stuff). The vent goes down behind the shower and through the access at the base of the locker at the V-berth. It then goes UP to the holding tank vent. The one in my boat was a solid mass. I guess that explains why the previous owner just plumbed the head to the thru-hull.The easy correction is to run the vent across the top of the locker. Requires a new hole under/behind the shower seat, and on into the space that contains the holding tank.

Deb, Can you take an even shorter, more direct

route from your tank to a new thru-hull? The shorter, straighter and more horizontal the vent line, the better.

I may do this later in the year....I spent longer on the sanitation system than I planned, and I wanted to do some sailing.So far so good....no odors!

I can understand your wanting to put it off, but

keep a VERY close eye on that vent--on ALL your vents. Humidity alone can cause water to build up in the trap, and if it's enough to block it, you could end up with a cracked tank. Any way you can get to it just to cut off enough to take the trap out without it being a major project?
