I've now tested all sleeping quarters on Fred V and have concluded that none of them are "couple compatible". Since I'm hoping that there will eventually be 2 of us living on the boat, and neither the aft or main cabin would make a suitable "bedroom", I've decided that the forward cabin needs to be the master stateroom.

However, the configuration of the forward cabin on Fred V is a bit unique, as it has a "double" berth to port, and a single raised berth to starboard. The double is not really conducive nor all that comfortable for 2 people, so I'm thinking about removing the starboard single (and 1-drawer bureau) and making it a true v-berth. Since I'm also going to replace all the head plumbing, I have some flexibility with this conversion, i.e. except for the location of the thru-hull, I assume I can route all plumbing to conform to the new v-berth configuration.

Before I do, does anyone have any ideas and/or suggestions that would help me make the forward cabin into a true master stateroom for two? Please include (or PM me) any photos you might have, too!

Thanks!

Hi Fred V,

I don't have good pics, but will happy to provide after I finish my (way too long) refit and clean up the boat.

PO modified our 37C by removing Shower wall and installing a cshower curtain, and making the hanging locker smaller. Over all, it does not look bad. I am not sure if this originally had the separate bunk setup or not, but now is an open V berth.

Here is my front cabin after remodeling. It has the original layout. With the bolster installed, it really makes for a nice large bunk for two, or three:naughty:
By the way, were do most people store that triangular bolster?? I found it hard to store on the boat.

Mine is completely original including the side carpeting! :(
I did add an old cabinet door to the panel under the cabinets. I had all of that woodwork out of the boat when I installed a hawse pipe to take the chain to the keel. As for that insert I just set it against the hull on edge. After I get into bed I install it.

We don't use the triangular bolster, it is on a shelf in the house closet. We removed the partition under the v-berth cabinet to make room for my husband's feet. Picture with blue pillow is before we removed the partition. We added shelves to both sides of the v-berth for storage (see pic).
