h36 holding tank

I recently purchased a Hunter 36. I'm looking for information from any Hunter 36 owner that has an installed holding tank to find out where your's is placed. Ronco has a large listing of tanks, but I'm wondering what might fit just forward of the head on the STBD side. "Short Circuit" has a 15-gal bladder and parts that have not been hooked up for at least two previous owners. I'm wondering if the tank will involve cutting out a bulkhead and using some of the standing space below the removable berth cushion. I'd like to just drop it in to the STBD compartment and perhaps only cut a larger hole in the fiberglass v-berth matress deck. The current bladder has grommets, but is not attached to anything. I suppose I might use it, but 15-gals is a little on the small side even for only 2 cruisers.

No H36, but . . .

I think there are similarities with my H37C. Isn't your head between the salon and the v-berth? And do you have a small locker under the v-berth wing and a larger one in the center? My H37C had a bladder hanging from the grommets in the center v-berth locker. I discussed on this site the idea of crafting a custom tank in the side locker. The majority said no, use a Ronco. So the Related Link was my solution.

Have bladder as you described in the stbd

storage space in v-berth fwd of head in our 82 H36. Ours has been hooked up since new but used very sparingly. Can line up to dump directly overboard (never used on the inland waters here) or to the holding tank. Has manual pump to pump holding tank overboard and so forth. Agree that it is a tad small but for our use so far it works out fine. Perhaps an upgrade later down the line. I could probably get some pictures of the bladder installation and piping if it's of any use to you. Let me know. I think the center v-berth storage area would have the volume to install a larger holding tank. Am not sure how the plumbing would work out getting the flush routed from the toilet to holding tank and getting it pumped out through the existing deck fitting. Interesting. Good luck, Mike s/v Charisma

Jim, My H36 has a short length of 2X4 against the hull under the starboard side of the V-berth. My boat, too, has a 15 gal. Crittenden bladder attached by screws through the grommets to the 2X4. You're right, 15 gals fills up pretty quickly, but there is plenty or room to replace it with a larger bladder. Since it conforms to the available space, I could probably get a 50 gallon bladder down there. The bladder is visible from the trash compartment in the head and easily accessible from the starboard locker under the V-berth. I have a couple photos of the installation if you're interested. If you want even more storage capacity, it wouldn't be much work to put a bladder in the center locker under the V-berth. Heck, you could probably fit 500 gallons under there, but I would imagine that your sailing quality (not to mention your air quality) would suffer.
