Our 82 H36 is on the hard this offseason for a number of repairs and maintenance. I plan to inspect and replace, if necessary, the compression post. I don't have any indications that there is a problem with it but figure I better look into it while out of the water with the mast unstepped. I was thinking that a SS pipe of approprate length would be the way to go. I recall someone posting use of SS a while back but, since the website redesign, I'm not sure where the thread is in the archives. Countering the SS pipe replacement, however, is J. Cherubini who said in an archived thread that a compression post of wood is the only way to go. (I think he said he replaced the post on his H27 with alder. I may be mistaken here and again I can't find the thread.) Anyway, it'll probably be after the first of the year before I get on with this task but will let you know how it progresses.

Not to divert your thread topic, I am curious if your H36 has had thruhull and gate valve replacement done. Our H36 has the original bronze thruhulls and gate valves. I want to replace them with seacocks. This is #1 priority of all my planned maintenance/repairs. After reading a great number of comments/opinions of others, I've decided to go with Forespar marelon. I'm baffled as to how to make this change for the galley drain. In the H36, the thruhull is forward of the galley underneath the port settee. There's not much room in the cubby hole between the water tank and the side of the settee. Does your H36 have a seacock at the galley drain thruhull?

Anyway, good luck with your post replacement. Let me know how it turns out.
