H340 three blade propellor

Hi again out there,My 1999 H340 has a two blade prop, driven by a 27 hp Yanmar. Has anyone fitted a three blade one,? if so, what results do you get? does it give considerable better bight in rough water and especially so when going astern? has it affected the sailing performance to any noticable degree? do you know what size & pitch to use.And finally is it worth doing.? 2-3 blade prop

can't comment on the 340, but I can give you a larger-smaller comparison. My 29.5 had a 2 blade, and the new owner fitted a 3. I went out with him and found much better control, especially in heavy river currents (the merrimac in MA)and much more responsiveness in maneuvering. I ordered my 356 with a three blade, so I can't directly compare, but everyone seems to think it's much better. BUT.... the three blade fixed props are supposed to cost you 1/2 to 3/4 Kt while sailing... you can call Hunter to get the right specs for the 3 blade for your 340.

I think the 3 blade prop is a 15x13. Double check with Hunter to be sure. Would be interested to know what kind of results you get as I am thinking of doing the same thing next haul out.

3 Blade Prop on my 340

I have a '00-340 with a 3 blade prop. It bites quickly and positively. It does walk a bit before it gains way, but its easy to compensate for. I'm sure there is a sailing penaly, but unless you want to spring for a folding 3, this one gets the job done.We were in a January storm motoring into 35-45 kts of wind in Galveston Bay. I was very thankful that big 'ole 3 blade was down there churning away. We made approx 4.5-5 knots at 2850 rpm. The seas were bad enough we jacked a lag bolt out of the forward starboard engine mount. A little TLC and everything is back 100%. Who says Hunters can't take a licking and keep on ticking!

3 Blade prop for Hunter 340

We installed a PYI 3 blade prop 16" with a 12" pitch on 2001. The added power over the bowtie prop is very significant. You will have no loss of sailing speed with this prop. Lake Erie can get very rough quickly and the 3 blade prop gives you the added power to get back and dock with higher degree of confidence.

For what it's worth in comparison, we have a 40.5 and the change from a 2 blade to a 3 blade max-prop is incredible - backs faster and straighter, powers into any current with ease and no drag gaining a conservative .5 knots. We can actually feel the boat accelerate now.Don

Excessive prop walk

We have a 1989 Hunter 37 Legend that has a three bladed prop. It has so much prop walk that it is annoying and because of this we use the autohelm. Incientally, the boat is well balanced under sail.
