It's moving up my list of upgrades as I get older. Not sure if a manual or electric is the best way to go. Looking for advice on what brands to consider, installation suggestions, etc. Pictures would be great. Any other thoughts from those who've done this on the H34 or boat with similiar anchor locker are appreciated.

Thanks,
Joe Mullee

Hi Joe,
I went electric and have never regretted it. No more back-breaking exercize raising the anchor in a strong wind ! No more hesitation to drop it in 25 or 30 feet of water if I like the anchorage ! Attached is a pdf showing how I installed my Lewmar 1000 Horizontal. You might also take a look on Fred Ficarra's website to see how he installed his:

Don't hesitate to get in touch with me if you have questions.

Joe...

One of my dockmates installed an electric windlass on his H34 last fall. If the weather cooperates in the near future, I can get pix of his installation if you need some references.

Regards!

PS: Found a pix of Fred's windlass installation, attached.

Hello Joe,
Although I can't take credit for the windlass installation on my H34 as I purchased the boat this way, it has served me well over the last 16 years of ownership. Hope the photo's help in your decision.

Regards,
Rich Rohm

Hello Joe, just wanted to submit another photo showing the sleakness of this installation. It really stays out of the way when walking forward on the deck.

I have sold my Hunter 34 and can not provide pictures. I installed a manual horizontal windlass aft of the anchor locker. I reinforced the underside with a stainless steel plate. I prefer manual but you pay your money and take your choice. I used it from the Dry Tortugas to New England and never regretted the installation or being manual.

Appreciate everyones help. I recently purchased and am in the process of installing a Raymarine E7 chartplotter and a Tacktick wind instrument. Once those are done I think my next upgrade will be the windlass.

Thanks again.
