I am finally getting to the point on my boat that it will launch this spring. So I got out the boom and started checking it over. One of the PO has customized the mainsheet and I am wondering how it should really be set up. Photos and diagrams would be a great help. Thanks!

OK here is an attempt to talk through it - the sheet bitter end is in the cockpit and the sheet goes forward the through the jam cleat and up the port side of the cabin top (photo 1) through the fairlead cheek block on the cabin top towards the mast. Through a block just aft of the mast and slightly to port. (Photo 2) Then up to a block under the boom and maybe a foot aft on the boom - the sheet continues aft along the bottom of the boom to (Photo 3) a block down to the double block on the traveler back up to the boom - back down to the double block and back up to the boom where it is tied off.

Hope this shows you enough!!

Wow I guess I should have looked at the title before posting!!! Thanks the photos and text help a lot. Much less complicated then the mess on mine. They have a cable between two boom bails and the sheet end secured to it. I may need to get another bail.

Mine has been modified for a little more advantage and less friction for better control. Attached pictures show a triple block/becket cam cleat on the traveler going to the original three blocks on the boom bails..

What size are the blocks? I'm thinking they need to be 72mm or 90mm. But looking at cost I may have to sail it the way it is this year.

I have a set-up that is a combination of kloudie's and SRH with tripple clutches on starboard and Port with the Main sheet to the port side along with the halyard. the starboard houses the genoa halyard and one of the reefing lines. One clutch remains available for the spinnaker that I don't have. Pictures of your set-up might give us opportunity to make recommendations.

The mast is not up yet. The boom is here at home. I have not seen them together for 2 years.

FWIW, I had a few of those Lewmar Synchro Blocks and they deteriorated in the sun after only two years.

There's always Garhauer, 10 year warranty. :) Not too shabby....:)

Similar to Kloudie...

I have a Shaeffer double block with becket attached to the traveller car (instead of two separate blocks). If the boat wasn't for sale, the mainsheet would be replaced with a high strength but smaller diameter line to reduce the friction from the multiple turns the mainsheet has to make to get back to its winch on the cabin top aft edge.
