I think I remember reading a post that someone mentioned creating a king size bed by turning the main cabin's table athwartship. If anyone has a picture of this or knows how it is done, I would really appreciate it. Thanks... Jon

I have no idea about this and would never consider myself but you deserve a pat on the back for the obviously ambitious plans you have for your boat! ;)

Hi Jon,
I'm confused by your question as the main cabin table on the 34 is already athwartship !!! As you already know it doesn't make a king size bed however ! Looking at my boat, you couldn't make the bed longer unless ready to move head bulkhead and/or galley. Making it wider athwartship is always possible but will interfere with passage lenghtwise in front of port settee, blocking way from V-berth area. Regards

Claude... Sorry, I wasn't exactly clear. It was too early in the AM... I meant to temporarily extend the dropped table athwartship to the port settee, thus creating a King sized berth. I'm thinking using 1/2" Plywood to bridge the gap. The plywood might be in sections that would be stored elsewhere when the bed is not in use. Yes it would temporarily restrict passage however, if it is just my wife and myself, It really would not matter. Hope that clear was a bit clearer. Thanks!

Sounds like a good idea & simple enough to do. You might even be able to use the large settee back cushions to complete the mattress.

This will now go on my list but to my wife's dismay, not at the top of the list.

I too have thought about doing this, maybe a sliding shelf from the port settee to the starboard side? but alas there are a number of things come first. Eng rebuild, port windows to be replaced... etc., etc., etc.

I've done this because the Admiral is claustrophobic. She finds the aft berth is to confining and the forward is to short for both of us.

So I've made a fill out of 3/4 plywood to fit between the port settee and the starboard benches. It fits nicely under the port cushions and is held in place with velcro. We have a 3 inch memory foam mattress that we put on top of the cushions. We sleep better on the boat than anywhere else!

Yes it's a pain to get to the head in the night but we haven't had any overnight guests to worry about it.
When i'm out single-handling I sleep in the aft berth. I don't think I have any pictures of the bed but will post if I find any.
