H34 hull only 1/4" thick at head seacocks?

I couldn't believe my eyes when I removed the seacocks for the head. It is so thin it makes me think something went horribly wrong at the factory.

Talking to the Warrior owner his hull is 3/4", the Morgan across the yard owner says his is 1/2" thick.

I plan on following MS's method of drill & tap a piece of FP board then epoxy it to the hull so I can use a true thruhull. I am leaning to Marlon for the head discharge.

The other boats do not have the internal grid to stiffen the hull so they are LOTS thicker.. looks more like 5/16", and could have been affected locally by zealous sanding..
I haven't removed mine, so I can't say if mine are the same..

When I removed mine, I think I noticed the through-hull was a bit recessed into the hull. I figured it was probably OK since the through-hull was acting as a part of the hull there. I am not saying that it is a good way to go, but it does appear to have worked for quite a while. I don't think the replacement through-hull flange extends out as much. I am just trusting that the fiberglass will hold.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, I think that's why its so light. other parts of the hull are thicker where needed. you can also ponder on why the tire wall thickness on a modern Boeing 767 is only 3/8" thick the next time you land @ 395000 lbs.

Great, one more thing to think about

that reminds me of a quote from an old diving instructor "given the complete failure of all equipment man can still swim a heck of a lot better than he can fly". I'm shopping for a piece of FP board and true thruhulls.
