Hello Everyone,
We tried to take a trip to Annapolis this weekend but ended up with a ruptured exhaust hose about an hour into the trip. The heeling left a stream of water right under the stove. I had my buddy shoe horn himself into the locker that took about 15 minutes of yoga each way. It definitely needs the exhaust hose changed. We just sailed back to the slip and ran the engine to get her in.
I am going to need to hire a small person or a teenager who probably needs to be strong, so I would like to know if anyone remembers how much they purchased so I can knock it out in one day. I tried to use a tape measure to get an idea but im 6' 5" and almost 300 lbs so im not super confident in my readings with the blood pooling in my eyes upside down. I would like to have enough to do both pieces please. I found a 12.5' piece on amazon, would that work?
Thanks,
Drew

So stupid question - exhaust hose to the thru hull can be changed in the water? The water line is just below when at the slip right? I probably should replace my exhaust hose, but I'm trying feverishly to do the must do things to resplash compression post and mast wiring is last thing on my list now before I can resplash - or so I hope.

Thanks folks. Its on order.
One thing to note Drew, you might have difficulty removing the old hose from the exhaust mixing elbow. The space is tight. If I recall correctly, you have to split the 12.5' hose in two pieces. One piece from the mixing elbow to the muffler, and the second piece from the muffler to the through-hull fitting. Lastly, if you use the 12.5' length there will be enough to neatly "loop" the hose just before the thru-hull fitting. it will look like the loop on a Matchbox car raceway, at least that's how our's looked. You'll want to secure the loop to the bulkhead with appropriate strapping.
Ok. one more thing. We recently had the nipple coupler shear off. It connects the exhaust elbow from the exhaust manifold to the exhaust mixing elbow.Luckily, we noticed it quickly so the cabin and sole didn't fill with exhaust gases and cooling water.... this is something you might want to check while you're in there. give the elbow a nice whack with a hammer to test it.... have fun
