Went to replace the cutless bearing in my '83 H34 and noticed significant corrosion around one of the set screws in the strut. Outside of tracking the electrolosis issue, I am now looking to replace the strut. Hunter reccomended a company in NJ called Delmar (sp?) but they do not have struts available for H34's. Alo went through archives but could not find any mention of suppliers for same. Does anyone know where I can locate new or used strut for this boat? Appreciate all assistance. Joe

You could most likely get it repaired and...

drill and retap the set screw thread. Or even move the set screw locations.

May appear worse than it really is

The set screw on mine- also an 83- looked pretty corroded when I went to remove it. However it cleaned up pretty well and presuming it is stainless which I believe mune were, it may well be removable and replaceable

Strut replacement

I'd look into re-tapping the holes first but, if the strut is badly corroded, you should replace it. Try Buck Algonquin Co. in Smyrna DE. They provide bronze castings including struts for many boat builders. They are also very nice people. They are a manufacturer and as such may not deal direct with the public however, if you give them a buzz they will certainly be able to refer you to one of their dealers or distributors. Look for a number cast into the side of the strut. This may help them identify the part for you.

h34 strut

My strut broke last weekend. I called Dahmer in NJ and they do stock the strut. There website is www.dahmermarine.com You will need to measure the strut to see if it is a 7" or 9", also if it is a 2 bolt or 4 bolt design. Hunter used both in production. I would strongly recommend replacing it. It is no fun replacing it under water.
