H33C Standing rigging size

Hi Folks,
Ref H33C (1980)
I want to split my back stay to a higher point and will need to buy some new wires.
Now, I took my caliper on the boat and measured the size of the back stay.
3/16 is 0.188 while 7/32 is 0.219 but I'm in between at .200 + or -.
Did my rigging stretch that much?

Contact Seco South in Florida. They probably made the original rigging and you probably won't find any better prices/service. They can assist you with your technical issues.

The rigging is all 1/4 inch. More than enough.

About 15 minutes into my first season with my 33 i was sick of smacking into the split back stays. That first winter I did al of the standing rigging. I set the back up as twin stays. They start on a fitting at the masthead and come straight down to the original attachment points. . They are out of the way and work great. NOTE WELL: you will find that the attachment points at the stern are not even. That is, each is a different distance from the transom, so each of the twin stays is a different length. Don't sweat it. It's a Hunter, and it just doesn't matter. The easy way to make them up is to have the top terminals swaged on, leaving the bottoms un-terminated. raise the mast, or climb up and affix them to the masthead, then cut and terminate in place. easier than it sounds.

A rigging shop is not likely to want to get involved in a modification on grounds of liability. many will tell you it won't work. I can assure you mine has been working great for a dozen years.

Hi Sam,
Maybe my rigging was replaced with heavier size at some point.
It would be closer to a worn/stretched 9/32 on my main rig.
Are you running two 1/4 back stays? The original split portion would have been 3/16?
Do you still have an adjuster?
My plan was to have a 10 ft section of single and then have a split point so I could still have an adjuster but maybe I'm complicating my life.

Anything is possible on these older boats at this point. I did increase the size of my head stay to 9/32 when I did all of the rigging and installed the Harken furler. I felt a wee bit more beef might take up for any additional wear from the furler.

Each of my twin back stays has it's own turnbuckle at the bottom. The Harken has it's own built in turnbuckle arrangement so I used that original on the stern
