I have had a survey completed on a 1981 H33, and one of the items that was highlighted was a lack of any bushing between the rudder and hull. Anyone know if this is
a) normal
b) a problem?

thanks

I think this was normal for the Cherubini Hunters (at least the 37 Cutters). It will get worn eventually. Then you 'rebuild it' following the directions in the West System Epoxy "Repairing Fiberglass Boats" book.

The lack of a bushing does not seem to be a problem. I have had my 33 for over 10 years. The rudder has always worked well. The only problem is with a shoal draft boat. With the shoal draft the rudder is deeper than the keel. Any grounding will hit the rudder first and may bend the rudder post. This may force the rudder up to where it will rub on the hull. For my boat I had the rudder cut off 7" and 7" added to the trailing edge of the rudder. This makes for a square shaped rudder that works very well.

I have a shoal draft 33 and it had no bushing I also cut the rudder down and teed the bottom so it would not hit. I am sure this is normal and not a problem
