The old vinyl cockpit cushions on my 79 H33 are long gone. Left out, they soon become a heavy soggy mess and take forever to dry out. Tim Schaaf posted a while back about using igloo cooler top cushions as an inexpensive alternative to custom cushions. I found a new folding cushion product that just about fits perfectly. A week after I bought it West Marine puts it on sale buy one, get one free for an effective half price. Folded, an internal latching arrangement and frame makes a back cushion that needs no external support, a real plus for uses outside the cockpit say on a dinghy. All in all a cockpit cushion for $45 with the additional function of a freestanding back rest.

hinge sitting

STeve, somehow, there seems to be sufficient padding over the hinge area that it is not noticable, at least for a new cushion. The thing only folds one way so the hardware is on the back side. They seem to be strong enough to free stand, (provide a backrest on a flat surface) which really increases usefulness.

Also called the "marriage saver"

These cushions are great. I've heard them called the marriage saver because on some models, like my former 31, the seat backs are so low they are uncomfortable. I use the seats all over. They are great for sitting on the fordeck, in the sun.

Terry, they are on sale again...

Thinking about one for the helmsman seat.. and another so Karen and I don't fight over the one. Question... is it made of close cell foam? Are you still pleased...and complaints? Thanks, David

closed cell foam?

David, I undid the zipper to check the foam but it looks like just ordinary foam to me. I'm not sure I know the difference. The cushions seem to be well made, quite sturdy but I've only had one for a couple of weeks. The cover is sunbrella.
