Last winter I pulled my galley apart for several projects. One of which was to add insulation to the icebox. In the project forms one owner describes how he added insulation, so I expected to find a lot of air gaps. I only found one, loaded it with spray in expanding foam and put things back together. I actually disassembled the galley cabinetry for these projects, the counter came off and was replaced, the cabinets were disassembled (and later re-assembled), I took photos if you need them. However, the little insulation I added probably didn't help a whole lot. I do three things to make ice last longer in our icebox. 1) I pre-cool the box a day or so early by loading in ice. 2) I make my own blocks of ice (tupperware type containers kept in the freezer) which last longer than cubes. 3) I lay a sheet of insulation over the contents before putting the icebox lid on. The insulaton I use comes from Sears hardware, it looks like bubble wrap with reflective aluminum skin on both sides. My ice lasts about 4 days in New England summer heat. Hope this helps some.
