II wonder if anyone knows the total number built and
manufacture sequence code ---mine is G. My boat is hull #580 manufactured in 1982 - thus
number: HUN33580M82G . I'm guessing mine was the 7th built that year.

Thanks for your reply
And Yes I’ve used this site extensively in the past for all the Hunter 33 specifications but I don’t see where I can find the total number built. -

Between 1973 and 1979 Hunter had FIVE production lines at Vandenburg Road in Marlboro: 25, 25, 27, 30, 33. Each line had five hulls, one from each day of the week. Each boat took five days to go through the line. At 10:10 every morning all the lines were moved forward. One from each line went onto a truck. One hull came in from the glass shop.

Net production: 250 boats/year in each line (so 500 H25s) - NOTE: for the period of production life. H25 started in model year 1973 (Aug-Jul). H30 in 1974. H27 in 1975. H33 in 1976. So best guess for NEW JERSEY production of H33 would be 1000.

Those were the days when people actually wanted to buy affordable sailboats! The more we’ve worried about fossil-fuel pollution, the more the market has gone to overpriced, overpowered motorboats (with open exhaust even). Go figure.

(Note - someone said somewhere the model year begins in the spring. If you have an M in the middle of your HIN the letters at the end (A-M) represent the model-year month: A for August and on. Like cars. If no M, model year is implied to begin with A for January.

My boat has ‘HG’ at the end which means it was released from the glass shop on Friday, March 1st, 1974. Diana just turned 51. )

A little H33 C, humor re: assy process.

Step 1. Mold Hull
Step 2. Install water tankless, water heater & motor.
Step 3. Seal all of the above in for eternity with the upper deck.

Hate to say it but that may have been down to John Luhrs. That’s how motorboats are constructed:
1. Mold hull. Install fuel tanks and bilge pump, hose and throughull up under gunwale.
2. Mold deck. Install console and seats on deck.
3. Attach deck ‘permanently’ (using silicone) leaving no access to seat and console bolts, tanks or bilge pump hose.
(BTW: number-one reason for rotten deck core on center-console boats: seat bolts caulked with silicone. I know this from experience.)
Marketing: ‘Well when that stuff goes bad we should have sold them another boat already.’
