Between 1973 and 1979 Hunter had FIVE production lines at Vandenburg Road in Marlboro: 25, 25, 27, 30, 33. Each line had five hulls, one from each day of the week. Each boat took five days to go through the line. At 10:10 every morning all the lines were moved forward. One from each line went onto a truck. One hull came in from the glass shop.
Net production: 250 boats/year in each line (so 500 H25s) - NOTE: for the period of production life. H25 started in model year 1973 (Aug-Jul). H30 in 1974. H27 in 1975. H33 in 1976. So best guess for NEW JERSEY production of H33 would be 1000.
Those were the days when people actually wanted to buy affordable sailboats! The more we’ve worried about fossil-fuel pollution, the more the market has gone to overpriced, overpowered motorboats (with open exhaust even). Go figure.
(Note - someone said somewhere the model year begins in the spring. If you have an M in the middle of your HIN the letters at the end (A-M) represent the model-year month: A for August and on. Like cars. If no M, model year is implied to begin with A for January.
My boat has ‘HG’ at the end which means it was released from the glass shop on Friday, March 1st, 1974. Diana just turned 51. )
