Well I tried the archives first with no success. Today I had some difficulties with the out haul on my boom. Actually, the line is (was) the original line and she parted ways with the rest of the world. I thought this would be no problem, just feed a new line through the boom. Yeah, it should only be that easy. There appears to be some type of block system in the bowels of the boom that I can't see, feel, touch or smell. I'm wondering just how the boom is rigged and better yet, how to re-rig it. My boom has three lines running through it. With my luck I'll dismantle the boom and ruin it, kinda like taking apart a giant Swiss watch, springs and wires will end up landing in my neighbors slip. Suggestions anyone???

NO Swiss magic here!

The rigging in the boom is quite simple. You have one or two reefing lines, and a simple block and tackle system to haul in the shackle on the wire that is your out haul. 1- Pull the boom off the boat. 2- unscrew or drill off the forward casting. You'll be able to look right into the boom and see what's going on in there. 3- Repair/replace as needed. The only thing you might need a rigger for would be to to swage a new wire to a new block and the shackle.. 4- Screw it together. If it was riveted, tap the holes for 1/4 - 20 screws. 5- Enjoy the knowledge that you have figured out how to do something you previously couldn't.
