I need to replace or repair Endless Summer's (1983 H31) topping lift. It is wire rope but I am thinking of using dacron (or whatever is best) instead of wire. Any comments or suggestions or stories??? Thanks, Roger Mummah

Another option

Depending on your budget, another option is a rigid vang that also operates as a topping lift. We put a Index Powervang on ours and it works great. It is nice not having to mess with a traditional topping lift. Doug

I'm in the same boat

Roger, I've got a 1982 H-30 with a similar problem. My topping lift has already been replaced with a dacron line, and it's worn out at the line clutch at the foot of the boom. The only way to repair is to cut the line and re-tie or go up the mast and replace the whole thing. I'm looking at replacing with the original wire/line setup - the vang option seems just too expensive for the "benefits." Let us know what you decide to do, please.

CHECK THIS OUR

i TOO HAVE A COATED WIRE TOPPING, THEY SAG AND RUST UP AT THE BOOM END, SO i CHOPPED OFF THREE FEET FROM THE BOOM ENF, ADDED A SINGLE SHEAVE BLOCK, WITH A COUPLE OF s/s WIRE u BOLTS, ANDDED A SIMULAR BLOCK WITH A BECKETM TO THE END OF THE BOOM, A LENGTH OF YACHT BRAIDA s/s EYE HOOK AND NOW IT'S ADJUSTABLE. yOU MAY CONSIDER THIS ALTERNATIVE, IT'S CHEAPER, EASIER TO DO AND IS BETTER. MERRY CHRISTMAS
