H31 Spreaders

I noticed that the spreaders on the H31 have an unused hole at the mast end. Anyone know why they were made that way? Additional standing rigging for offshore use?

Are the holes just on the lower spreaders? If so I'm going to guess deck lights. Or ?

That was my guess, Don, but they are in the upper spreader eerily close to where the spreader mounts to the mast. Two holes at the inboard end of the spreader certainly makes in clear that area of the spreader is not designed to handle much stress except what is exerted toward the mast by the shroud.
