I'm trying to trace down a leak in the aft of our 84 H31. Someone suggested it could be comming from the muffler. I understand the muffler is under the fuel tank. My tank is tied down with nylon straps. Do I have to cut these straps to remove the tank? After the tank is removed, where is the muffler? Thanks, Bob PS:The leak seems to be aft the rudder post, between the hull and the hull liner. I have checked the scubbers and the exhaust exit. All are dry......HELP !!

Check your rear stanchions. Mine started leaking around were they go through the boat. Leaks on the shelf back there sends the water in a lot of directions. I don't think it's the muffler it's to low in the hull. Also check your toe rail, water travels a long way done it.

Other possibilities

Arew you sure it's the muffler? The muffler is integral to the hull. Unless the fiberglass is broken (you would smell exhaust fumes in back lazarette if it was. The muffler is accessible forward of the fuel tank, where the exhaust pipes go in and out. Have you looked at the feed and vent hoses in your fresh water system? Those hoses pass from the water tank and are routed in a passage forward of the fuel tank and aft of the muffler. I just replaced those hoses (they were nasty inside) on my 83 H31, and I think they could be your culprit.
