Our 84 H31 has the standard cabin top cowl ventilators. No matter how hard the wind blows, I can't feel any breeze inside the boat. Do these vents work on anybody elses boat ? Could the vents on my boat be clogged? Thanks, Bob S/V Lady Di II

Same here.

The main air obstruction on my H37C are the screen inserts I think. The screen fabric is so dense that you could never expect much airflow. But even with them taken out the flow doesn't compare with the top hatches. But it was the only ventilation with the boat closed up for the week. I added a 4-inch exhaust fan on the hatch board and I plug it into a timer. Runs a couple hours a day and is about .1 amps. No dampness or mildew on the boat.

Cowl vents

Your right. As set up these cowl vents are useless. Air entering the cabin likes to have a means of escape. If you extend both cowl vents down to the screen using PVC pipe and have one vent facing forward and the other facing aft you should notice a big change. When checking this out make sure all other hatches and ports are closed.

cowl vents....[dorades]

Try removing the wood panel with the screen and check for a bead of calk around the the top of the vent. My boat had a bead of caulk there which nearly blocked the air flow. There is only about a half inch of vent area as it is. I can only imagine this caulk was put there to keep water from entering. I have removed this caulk and the air flow is better. I would like to see a small fan inj place of the vents. There should also be another pair of vents somewhere else on the boat.
