Anyone added a way to tell how much fuel is in your tank? I have a 16 gal. plastic that I can't see from the side how much fuel I have. I am looking for an easy way to tell. Thank's,SG

Engine hours

I simply keep track of engine hours. I consume about .5 gals per hour. 16 gallon tank should run about 32 hours. When I figure I am about 1/2 full I add more fuel.

Easy

I put in a simple float gauge years ago. Used a hole saw to drill thru top of tank, set the gauge in with some caulk and screwed it into the plastic. I then used the hole saw to make a hole in the bottom of the stern storage locker(there's another name for the locker but I forget just now). Just need a flashlight to see the gauge when you lift up the cover, which is the seat you sit on to steer the boat.

Not in my 2gm

Our 2gm consumed about .75 gal/hr or so. There is a gauge that you can purchase on this web site from Snake River that will work on the poly tank. You can also monitor your fresh water and waste level too.

Fuel gauges in boats are very unreliable.

There is no substitute for knowing the burn rate of your engine (GPH) and keeping track of the hours motored. In some boats where a stick can be inserted straight into the bottom of the tank and marked F, 1/2, E it can be used to get a reading. Remember that an engine will suck air way before the tank is totally empty so it is a good idea to always maintain a couple of gallons as reserve.
