I recently bought a 1981 H30. The previous owner removed whatever device was used to keep the throttle lever in place, such that it now must be either tied in place with a line or held in place manually. Neither one of these is particularly good. Does anyone know what was originally used, and where I might buy one? Thank you.

I had the same problem on my 83 H30. If it's built the same as mine, there is a small clamp that holds the cable to the pedestal. It's under the compass inside of the pedestal. Just tighten the screw until it holds the throttle cable in place, but still can be moved.
Otherwise, just get a small bungee and hook it around the pedestal guard.

Thank you both for the advice. I'll try to find the cable on Saturday.

My H34 had the j clamp on the cable down near the engine end. I read somewhere that the clamp should be positioned as near as possible to the head of the cable so i re-positioned it to the cable right where it exits the pedistal ( overhead in the aft berth). Works much better although harder to get at for adjustment.

I concur .... on my 83 H-30 I have a J-Clamp on the throttle cable near the engine. it still slips a little when motoring but keeps the RPS right for about 5 minutes. I suppose I could turn the screw on the J calamp a little but haven't had the chance yet......
