Does anyone know where to get a good, solid cradle fit for an '89 Hunter 30? I've moved from the salt to Flathead Lake Montana and need to haul in the winter.

I can suggest an excellent place for you to call. I have a Hunter 31 and ordered a cradle from this company. It was a folding steel cradle which was made to fit my boat. When it came time to use it for the first time, it was 8 minutes from water to cradle. It fit perfectly. By the way you would have the benefit of US dollars as well. Marine Cradle Shop Web Site

http://www.yachtsales.com/trailers/mcs/cradles.html This is the web site I found for Marine Cradle Shop that B. Smith pointed out in an earlier message. They make cradles and trailers in a number of sizes and configurations. General guidelines for pricing are on the site. Shipping will depend on the model and distance to deliver, but his estimate for a heavy duty cradle to Montana was around US$500 for the model I wanted to come to a remote area of Montana. I spoke with Mark Jacobs there (905)294-3509 and was pleased with his helpfulness and the range of products they offer.

cradle

I bought a cradleless H31 from Tennessee but needed a cradle for Lake Erie winter storage. Price for a steel cradle was over $1200. Result-I fabricated one from 4x6 outdoor wood, with some prior engineering and about $400 in wood and fittings on a Saturday. Works well. to match the hull I measured another H31 and cut the 2 pieces to shape from doubled 3/4" plywood and covered hull edge with carpet.

Don't be discouraged by shipping costs. We bought a beautiful, like new, cradle that came with a 38 hunter for $600. We needed it shipped close to 1000 miles and had absolutely no problem. We contacted a trucking dispatcher and had no problem getting a trucker to deliver...we were flexible with schedules and the trucker was thrilled to get the job because he would have been returning empty...shipping costs around $500. You can even do better if you shop around. The cradle is beautiful and it has many adjustable stands on it (around 14). It is great. Our total cost was $1100 and we learned not to be afraid of shipping costs. We found it in sailboat.com in the wanted to buy section. We had our choice of cradles...sizes and prices....we are very happy with our choice! Good Luck...Elleigh Bene Vita
