H28 plastic stuffing box HELP!

Tried to repack plastic stuffing box, but ran into a problem. I can still stop dripping, so I know flax is still present, but when I removed nut and inserted puller it hit a plastic ring. I assume the flax is on the other side of ring. I can rotate ring, but can not remove it to get to old flax. Hunter and distributor of stuffing box do not know how to repack. I know how if I can get the ring out: any suggestions.

i had the same problem. i tried for over an hour to get out the plastic washer. i then started the engine (sorry if forgot what direction), but running the engine in whatever direction that was allowed the washer to "walk" itself out. it was so easy. i couldn't believe it. i hope this helps.

Good idea

...starting the engine to walk it out. Failing that, try a 1/8-inch electric drill bit on slow rpm by aiming 45 degrees at 3 o'clock so as not to damage the shaft, etc. You'll drill right through the ring and should be able to grab it or at least tear it up enough to remove.For more on this, check the Archives for "stuffing box."
