Ok, so with my new boat I have a very simple panel. It is three lights, key, start button and a pull switch. I received no documentation on the boat and have been working my way through. The previous owner informed me he thought the motor was overheating.

Now the good news, the engione runs and got me to the slip. Any idea on the three lights? I think; Oil, Temp, on?

Thank you and any idea where to get a exhaust elbow? this one is extremely rusted.

Hello,

I recently corrected an overheating problem on my sb8. My problem was very complicated, yours might not be, but none the less I went through literally every possible overheating fix before I solved the problem. Here is the thread containing information on those fixes: http://forums.hunter.sailboatowners.com/showthread.php?t=164089 . Read through it and give some of the options a try. Hopefully you won't have to disassemble your exhaust manifold like I did. As for the lights, I posted the entire manual for the sb8 engine. It covers everything you need to know about the engine, including the lights. Here is the link: http://hunter.sailboatowners.com/in...7&cat_id=16&aid=8207&page=article&mn=27_75-84 . The only thing the manual doesn't tell you is the oil type, which is SAE 30.

Good luck and happy sailing,

Thank you for this. The engine starts and runs great. The previous owner told me it was overheating but I have not run it enough to truly experience it. The problem with the boat so far has been utter neglect by the previous owner. Two date I have taken 8 giant trash bags full off of the boat. The good news is the 27 has a amazing amount of storage.

Sorry, but a bit off topic re your engine specific query . But you do mention "new boat"... for you anyway!

In case you haven't yet delved deeply into the wealth of info on the sailboatowners.com Cherubini Hunter sub-forum yet, check out this link. It has info/drawings about your boat.

Through the years, I've observed a few Cherubini Hunter 27's on San Francisco Bay passing by. My uptake: For 27', they do have a larger visual "cruiser/racer" impression than even (say) a 30-32 foot Catalina.

I think you did well when you decided to buy your "new" Cherubini Hunter. It was very much the same with me and my 1980 Cherubini 36 acquisition eight years ago when I signed the purchase papers. Something about it, features/layout vs. price vs. incredible 27 year after manufacturer OEM quality, just immediately resonated when I first saw "Wildaire".

Eight years on, and having stuck my body parts into almost every part of the boat (100% DIY) I still feel good that I made the best pre-owned plastic classic boat purchase choice for my sailing experience needs.

Thank you for this. It is a great classic looking boat. So far we have stripped the teak via 2 part cleaner. I unwired 35 years worth of bad wiring and threw out the old moldy cushions.

Now fix the overheating of the YSB8 which according to my fellow Jersey owner it is between the thermostat and exhaust elbow needs to be cleaned.

I echo everything mentioned above. In my 12 years of Cherubini 27' ownership I have found the boat to be solid, stable in high winds, fun to upgrade... A few places are difficult to work on due to access...like stuffing box, raw-water through-hull under the galley sink, OEM circuit-breaker panel, etc...
I have a "Galion" brand engine instrument panel which, for the most part, does not work. I plan to put in new gauges at some point and have already switched to a new push-button start switch.
