The cabin cushions of my 1984 H27 need new covers. Does anyone know where you can buy that material?

Fabric Idea

I recently recovered my cushions for less than $100 total. Here goes, I went to a fabric store and bought navy blue denim like material, parachute cord, upholstery thread. First I kept the original fabric on the cushions. Then laying the cushion on the fabric O traced the outline on the fabric with chalk, then around each cushion I put a six inch border and used a t-square to make the corner markings. I assembled these in box method. So in essence each cusion lay in the bottom of a box. Then I rolled the final edge and ran the parachute cord as a drawstring through the hem. Then I could tighten the cord and snug it up tight. This of course would be under the cushion. That wasy they are quick and easy to remove to wash. Believe me it was easy. The whole boat in a half day. If you leave enough slack you will even have no problem with the forward ends of the salon setees. Then I used the same fabric to cover the setee back bolster. Removed the screws, left the original fabric, pulled the new piece tight and staple gunned away. I even made a modification for the quarter berth. It is not a thwartship bench seat, behind which is storage for ice chests, etc. I cut the original cushion in three pieces with a serrated knife. The forward piece is agout 22 inches, covered the same way as the berths, then the middle piece 24 inches forms the backrest. There is a thwartship plywood board with a toggle that covers the rest of the quarter berth tunnel. The final piece of the berth I keep ashore, if I ever need it I can return it aboard. Behind the plywood backrest is a large storage area that is out of sight and shipshape. Plenty of space for ice chests, deflated dinghy. Looks great people love it. I know this is not enough information....just call me and I will help you over the phone. Keith (504) 482-8627

Thanks for you reply

Hi Keith, Very good advice! Thanks. Your procedure is very clear and detailed, so I think I am going to follow that. (No copy rights?) Thanks again, Hans.

Hans, Give me a call...cushion recovering.

Hans, I would be glad to talk to you on the phone about this project. It is really easy, I used a regular singer sewing machine and once you do one cushion you will be amazed how easy it is. On the main cabin settees just leave some slack. The whole thing just tucks into the foot hole foreward. Also I recommend that on the corners of the main cabin setees on the inboard after ends you put a diagonal double corner piece. These areas are subject to wear at least on my boat. So I put a neat double piece on the corner and it looks purposeful and it allows for soem extra hard wear. Call me it you like..504-632-6980 anytime, it I am not around I will return your call. Keith, I love my old girl H27.
