Raising the main has been very difficult since we purchased the boat last year. Assumed it was the sheave in top of mast however tested the halyard and the problem is the mast slides/slugs. Using the D shaped (AO13?) with the outer shelf. Each slide cocks toward the mast with the shelf jamming into the mast.

Anyone know the correct / stock slide for the H27-2 Z-Spars mast? Any thoughts on upgrades/improvements to original?

Thanks!

My '92 H27 uses 13/32" SS bail slug with rocker and works just fine. Just replaced all the slugs last spring and used a micrometer to measure the old slugs to order the replacements. I spray sail lube on them and as far up the mast as I can reach 3 or 4 times a season. A friends '90 H27 has 3/8" SS bail slugs without the rocker and he swears they are the original as he is still using his original main (Yeah, I know, 22 years on a main sail and it still looks cleaner than my two year old replacement!!). My 13/32" slugs, being 1/32" larger are too wide to fit into his sail entry so mine may have been modified. Or the masts could have been manufactured with different size sail entry. The track measured the same. Just one of many differences on our identical Hunters.

May not be your problem but when I purchased a prior Hunter 26.5 I was having a problem getting the main up and down. It was binding both ways. I too thought it was the slugs binding but I found that it was the 1/2" halyard the prior owner installed that was causing the problem. Replaced it with the original size 3/8 halyard and it solved everything.
