Has anybody upgreaded from the 1 GM to either a 1GM10 or a 2GM20 for their early hunter 27 (ie like my 1983)? Any problems with fit, exhaust, weight distribution, and costs? Last year I went from a 2 to 3 blade prop with a great improvement against wind and waves in the face. I just want more power in those situations. Plus the ability to use a larger alternator (35 amp is stock). Thanks for any help I can get.

Prop change

Chuck Not to get your thread off track, but can you give some more info on the prop change that you made? What type/size/manufacturer etc? And I was wondering about the effects on the engine rpms and speed of the boat over water. We have the same boat and engine, 1GM and a two blade prop (I assume it was standard gear). As to your question, we have investigated the same upgrade, but the cost was significant (we were quoted roughly $5500 for a rebuilt 2GM, if I remember right), so we didn't go much further with the actual dimensions or exhaust issues, etc. The implication from the mechanic who quoted us was that it was an easy change, i.e. no problems with size or weight. However, this is all unconfirmed. Take care, Ron

I replaced my 1GM with a 1GM10

If I had it do over again, I would just up grade to 2GM, that is what I am planning to do this spring. I was quoted about $5,500 to $6,000 to do the complete job with a new engine with my 1GM10 exchange.
