Ok, I'm buying a new Hunter 260 and for the last 6 months I've been reading the dozen or more sailing web sites with public forums. I very seldom see anything written about the H260. I know there are a bunch of 260 owners out there. Are they all happy, or are they just hiding?

They are here!

I think many of the Hunter 260 owners are here rather than other public sites. This is the main sailing site I check for 260 questions and answers. The archives and photo furum have a lot of very useful information about the 260 as well as other Hunter boats. I have discovered many good ideas about 260 enhancements and quickly had questions about problems answered by other 260 owners. I suggest you search the archives a bit to gain a feeling for the vast anount of useful information available on this site. Note that there is also a reasonably sized directory of 260 owners listed on this site. Good Luck with your new 260! Bernie s/v Josephine H260

I see a name! / helm seat storage

Hi Bernie, I see your boat now has a name. One of the first things I noticed about your boat when I saw it at Hunter in January was that it had so many modifications but no name. Is it really on the hull and everything? Funny the name was the first thing that I got done on mine, not by priority, but just the first thing that I had all the stuff to get done. I am putting a shelf under my seat while I still have the seat/deck section off. I am screwing and epoxing a cleat (3/4 x 3/4) around the inside perimeter of the side walls coming up to the seat. A sectional shelf (removeable) will rest on the cleat. It should leave plenty of room for a cooler, or fenders, or foulies or even a 6 gal tank if needed for extra fuel or in case of problems with the installed tank. I'm also installing a fuel shut-off valve with a second supply inlet for a portable tank connection. How were you planning to install the shelf? Fair winds, Joe C. "Josephine" is on the hull

Hi Joe, Yes, "Josephine" is in large blue script with light grey shadowing on both sides of the hull. I have had the vinyl names for months, but all the boat problems I had last year held me back from wanting to christen my sailboat. However, when I received it back from the Hunter factory in January, I was so pleased with the repaired and reconditioned boat that the first thing I did was to put her name on both sides. I think she is now better than new. I have never seen a company stand by their product and work so hard to satisfy their customer like Hunter. They even repaired and tested many items that were clearly not their responsibility. I would never hesitate to buy another Hunter based on my outstanding experience with them. I wish more companies acted like them. As for the dealer - that's another story. I will never set foot on his property again! The only thing I can't understand is why Hunter let's them sell their boats. I am laying out my helman's seat bottom using cardboard. I plan on making it in two, multidimensional halves. The port side will be permanent because the fuel tank fill and vent lines have to pass through it. The starboard side will be removable. The port side I will attach with stainless steel angles and screws. The port side will rest on a lip of the starboard side plus a ledge I am epoxying & screwing to the sides similar to what you have described. The final product will be made of 1/4" pressure treated plywood covered with fiberglass cloth and epoxy. Lake Lanier is only down 8 feet from full pool. That's a vast imrovement from last Fall, but hopefully it will continue to fill if the Corps of Engineers ever figures out what they are doing. We are trying to get the boat in the water and christen her this weekend. Of course, we will make all the appropriate remarks to King Neptune and use wine as the christening medium. We don't plan to pour too much on the bow though, since that would leave us less to drink and celebrate with. Since you are not that far away, I hope we can get an opportunity to sail our boats together some time in the future Best of sailing Bernie
