I like many of you have the sunbrella hatch cover from Hunterowners.com for my H260 to keep the hatch dry. It seems to be well made and has lots of snaps. I am however wondering if it can be left on while trailering down the highway at 60 mph ? I can't imagine it would do any good to keep the water leaking in around the hatch or hatch boards so I suppose there would be no reason to leave it in place while on the highway. And I assume it would suffer a lot of wear and tear on a long trip (I'm driving from Canada to Florida). I guess my conclusion is to take it off. So without the sunbrella cover do you get any water coming through the hatch towing through a rain storm ?

Bob:

If you would rather risk the loss of a $100 cover than mop up any water that MIGHT leak in then I'd recommend you keep it on.

When I travel, I remove the winch covers and the hatch cover. I've never driven through a severe downpour but don't mind a little water inside as it is easy to clean up.

move the aft bunk cushions to the front to keep any drips from wetting them, put the hatch cover in your vehicle and when you stop, if there's a chance of rain, you can put it back on. you might even roll up a couple of towels and lay them on the floor along the ridge below the steps, that way if you do get a little water in, it won't be sloshing and rolling around on wood sole panel.

I agree with "guest" and "George"
Prepare the interior of the boat expecting the worse. It really doesn't take much. Use the hatch cover if you must, otherwise, keep it handy. Same for preparing for all exterior screens, winch covers and such.
Hey George, Going to SS Chicago?

Just Occured to Me

I think I'd remove the cover and use painters tape to seal the cracks.

Looks like I am in the minority but I have trailered my H26 at 65 mph with the snap on sunbrella hatch cover on many times with no problems.

Hatch cover

I always leave the cover on while trailering, even at freeway speeds. Haven't had a problem yet.

arrived in Florida, 1823 miles,

we drove through about 7 hours of light rain (it was freezing as we started off). I had the canvas cover stowed. I checked the cabin when we stopped for the night and not a drop of water any place, so I was very happy about that.
We have her in the water, a front came through yesterday so have not finished rigging her and some provisioning left to do. She is tied up at the dock at my brothers place, on the ICW at the St Lucie Inlet, we hope to head out on our adventure in the next few days.

Re: arrived in Florida, 1823 miles,

Ah, yes, the wonderful ICW. Stayed a few days at my friends place on the ICW then pulled my boat at Liza Jackson park near Destin. The rest is history...
